Science & Innovation section

UK science is retaining its strong position, second only to the US in global scientific excellence. The Science & Innovation (S&I) network spreads to about 50 FCO missions in around 30 countries. The S&I Section provides an official linkage for science policy makers, academia, businesses, the media and the general public.

The Science & Innovation Section in The Hague has mapped out areas of scientific excellence in both the UK and the Netherlands and has worked in partnership with the Netherlands' scientific community in building bilateral science programmes across a wide area of breakthrough disciplines such as:

  • Regenerative Medicine
  • Human Enhancement
  • Coastal Defence and Flood Management

With future projects:

  • ICT identity, privacy and security
  • Biodiversity

Amongst our partners in science are the national institutes of scientific excellence including the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research and the Rathenau Institute.

In fostering collaboration we directly contribute to the generation of prospective partnerships involving universities, research councils and the business community. We play a key role in knowledge transfer and information exchange through European and national stakeholders, while putting scientists in touch with contacts to develop their science and technology projects bilaterally.
