Ancient & familiar neighbours - the future
The UK and the Netherlands are both constitutional monarchies. They are seafaring nations with a rich and common history. They share the same ideals of freedom and tolerance, and a mindset that favours pragmatism above ideology. They embrace economic reform and promote social inclusion. They are committed to European co-operation and to a strong transatlantic relationship. They are active players in NATO and the United Nations, and are working together to promote free trade; peace and stability; international human rights and the alleviation of poverty, starvation and disease in the poorest parts of the world. This is a very firm basis upon which to develop the bilateral relationship in the years ahead.
